  What is the equipment like?

POWER UNITS.

  • We have been busy changing and upgrading our fleet of tractors by replacing older Kenworth and Freightliner power units with all Mack trucks. These tractors have proven themselves to be able to withstand the environment we operate in, are very comfortable, have reliable fuel-efficient MP8 engines, have a tight turning radius (helpful on our work locations), and help to streamline management of our fleet. Transmissions include straight 10 manual along with 10 and 12 speed auto-shift.
  • All air ride equipped
  • Pre wired for CB radio
  • Permanent, pre-installed power inverter of at least 1,500 watt
  • Refrigerator
  • Flat screen TV.
  • ELD devices are NOT installed as we are exempt from both electronic and paper log rules. We operate under the 100 air-mile rules and complete a simple time sheet.
  • All company drivers receive assigned trucks and trailers

When and how will I be paid?

As a result of the billing process you will receive your first paycheck three weeks after your first load.

  1. You will complete each load via Axon app on your smartphone along with pics of all documents at the completion of the load. At the end of your first week you will TripPak all of  your documents to the billing department as a backup to the electronic process.
  2. During week two the billing team will process the load tickets.
  3. Week three the payroll team will process your settlement for payment.
  4. You will continue to receive a check each week as long as you complete each load in Axon and TripPak your documents on time each week.
  5. You will be paid each Monday via direct deposit.

How do you pay dirvers, by the mile or percentage?

Drivers are paid from a percentage of the GROSS. Drivers earn 28% of all revenue paid to the truck. In addition, drivers are provided a weekly guarantee. Please visit with HR for details.

Is any physical labor involved?

Yes, but minimal. All drivers are expected to complete a pre-trip and a post-trip inspection of all equipment every day. In addition, drivers are expected to perform the usual maintenance tasks normal to any driving job such as regular fluids check, maintain proper tire inflation, grease the 5th wheel at specified intervals, take equipment for scheduled PM and truck wash at specified facilities, and make any minor emergency repairs necessary for safe and legal operation of equipment such as lighting repairs.

Who provides safety equipment?

The company will provide you with any required safety equipment such as a set of FRC coveralls, an H2S monitor, gloves (impact & leather), hardhat, safety glasses, half-mask respirators (air purifying) with filters, face shields, and ear protection. Steel-toed boots are your responsibility (NO steel toed tennis shoes allowed). All safety equipment must be worn prior to exiting the truck on any location, lease road or loading facility.

What paperwork is required?

Prior to leaving on your first trip you will attend an orientation class covering all paperwork requirements. Paperwork is a critical part of your job. It should be neat, complete and turned in on time. This helps ensure timely and accurate payroll.

What do the work schedules look like?

Drivers are required to work a minimum of 21 days. Time-off is scheduled two weeks in advance. Time-off schedule for amount of time worked is as follows:

  •  3 weeks on duty earns 5 days off
  • 4 weeks on duty earns 7 days off (maximum time-off allowed).

 Do I get paid holidays?

Drivers are compensated based solely on what the truck earns.

May I take the truck home?

In order to keep up with preventative maintenance, no company owned or company operated equipment is allowed to be taken to a driver’s home. Any needed repairs and maintenance should be scheduled with Schoonover Trucking at least two weeks prior to your approaching home time. This allows us to make the most of your scheduled down-time. Schoonover Trucking maintains a warehouse facility in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where truck parking is maintained and drivers can safely park their personal vehicle indoors while on duty.

Are riders or pets allowed?

Yes to both. However, we typically remove the passenger seat and mount a sizeable refrigerator in that space for the driver's convenience. Please visit with HR to see how we might properly match your needs with existing equipment.

Am I permitted to have a beard?

Yes you may since we have migrated our business away from Pneumatic trailer operation in favor of SandBox chassis. However, due to the requirement of having to maintain annual half-mask respirator fit-test credentials all field personnel must be clean-shaven at least once a year in order to pass the fit-test.
